Build-A-Book
Ideas:
1.
Shape Books
•
Find a favorite shape (trace from coloring
book
or create your own). • Stack shaped
papers, and
punch
holes along side. • Thread yarn or
ribbon through
holes
to bind book. • Write and draw about
your
favorite shape
or anything you like!
2.
Story Time
•
Stack 4 or so sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" paper. •
Fold
paper
in half. • Have grown-up help to staple
along center
fold.
• Enjoy writing and illustrating your
best story ever!
3.
Cook Book
•
Stack 4 or so sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" paper. •
Fold
paper
in half. • Have grown-up help to staple
along center
fold.
•
Label as many tabs as you need, and tape
or
gluestick them to pages. (Create tabs to
divide
your cook book into food sections.
Ex:
drinks, snacks, meals, desserts, etc.)
4.
Fold-Out-Book
•
Use one long sheet of paper (Example: 5" x 20")
•
Fold paper into 5 equal sections. •
Number pages 1-10, using
both
sides. (Younger children can do pages 1-5, using only one
side)
•
Create a simple story on your new fold-out book!
5.
Cut-Out-Book
•
Stack 4 or so
sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" paper. •
Fold
paper
in half. • Have grown-up help to staple
along center
fold,
and cut-out identical circle through all pages except for last
page.
• Trace circle onto last page. •
Draw or paste a picture
of
yourself in circle on last page. •
Write story about yourself.
(Ex.
Page 1. My name is Sam. 2. I like to eat spaghetti. etc.)
•
Create other "Cut-Out-Books" (about pet, parent, sibling, etc.)
6.
In-My-Pocket-Book
•
Stack 8 1/2" x 11" papers, and
punch
2 holes along side. • Use gold brads,
yarn or ribbon
to
bind book. • Draw pocket on front cover.
• Imagine what
you
have in your pocket. Write and draw about it.
7.
Scrap Book
•
Stack 4 or so
sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" paper. •
Place an
8 1/2"
x 2" piece of cardboard on top and bottom of stack of
papers
• Punch two holes through cardboard and paper.
•
Use yarn, ribbon or rawhide through holes to bind book.
•
Write and draw pictures about family and friends
in
your
new scrap book!
